150 Years of Macy’s in 1 Commercial

Kudos to Macy’s for its feel-good commercial celebrating 150-years as part of pop culture.  The commercial delivers a perfect brand message for a struggling economy entering the holiday retail season.   The ad was also ranked the second most liked ad by consumers between September 15 – October 12, 2008, according to Nielsen IAG Research (via AdAge.com).

I really liked the ad and the history behind it. I used to live in NYC and Macy’s presense is almost always felt there. I actually think it’s great that an iconic brand like Macy’s has survived for so long and managed to thrive as well.

Scott, I agree. The Macy’s store in NYC is an iconic landmark. I always loved seeing the holiday window decorating when I lived near NYC.

I enjoyed the piece, but was wondering in your research did you come across a jewerly department character possibly named yellowman? He is about 3 feet tall wearing a mask and holding a lucite type tray. I was told he existed in the 40′s and 50′s and graced the jewerly department in that era.

Don, I’m sorry, but I don’t have any information on the character you describe.

    Thanks for responding.
