I’m finally starting to try to use Twitter more frequently, so I took a few minutes yesterday to give my Twitter profile page a branded design with my logo, color palette and even incorporating the background image from the KeySplash Creative website. If you haven’t branded your Twitter profile, it’s a good idea to do so. There are many people and companies who offer free or custom Twitter profile designs, but at the very least (or until your custom design is completed), you can modify your Twitter profile color scheme and upload a different background. Check out the simple steps below to get started.
First, here is my branded Twitter page.
To change your Twitter profile page design, log into your Twitter account and select the “Settings” tab in the upper right navigation bar. The Settings page opens with all of your contact and personal information displayed. At the center of that page below your username is a navigation bar as shown below.
Select the “Design” tab from the navigation bar. The Design page opens with thumbnail images showing the available Twitter themes that you can choose from as shown below.
Beneath the thumbnail images are two links highlighted in blue, which say “Change background image” and “Change design colors”. To change the image in the background of your Twitter profile, select the “Change background image” link. A new section of the window opens beneath the link you just selected, which provides a text box for you to enter the destination path for the image you want to use in your Twitter profile background (if you already uploaded an image, as I have, it will also show up as a thumbnail image in this space).
Type the destination path on your computer’s hard drive for the image you want to upload and use on your Twitter profile page background, or select the “Browse” button and locate the image in the correct folder on your hard drive. Then select the “Save Changes” button to save that uploaded image as your new Twitter profile background. The change is instantaneous, so you can check how the new background looks right away by returning to your Profile or Home page. Try to use an image that is 1600 x 1200 pixels in size to ensure the image fits well. If your image is too small, select the box next to “tile background” below your uploaded thumbnail image to make the image repeat across the background of your Twitter profile page.
You can also change the colors used in your Twitter profile page by selecting the “Change design colors” link beneath the standard theme thumbnail images on the Design page. A new section of the window opens where the various colors used in your Twitter profile design are listed as shown below.
Either enter the codes for the colors you want to use for each element in your Twitter profile, or use the color picker to select your colors. Select the “Save Changes” button, and your changes will go live on your Twitter profile immediately.
It’s easy to upload an image to your Twitter background, and it’s even easier to modify your Twitter profile page’s color palette. Don’t be afraid to test different colors and images until you get it just the way you want it. The most important thing is to brand your Twitter profile sooner rather than later.
